13 die, 14 injured in Ogun road accident

Tragedy struck in Ogun community as thirteen (13) passengers dead and fourteen (14) passengers were severely injured in a road accident.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the sad incident occured on Wednesday night, November 13 in Ogun state.

One of the tyres of a MAN diesel truck burst in motion and crashed into a median on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by the SAPAADE Bridge near Ogere Ogun state.

It was further learnt that two commuter buses who were speeding and heading towards the Ibadan axis of the expressway collided with the truck which was speeding at the time of the accident.

According to reports, the Truck with the number plate KAB97XA was said to be travelling from the Lagos axis of the Expressway, the Sector Commander FRSC Ogun State Command, Clement Oladele said.

The fatal crash involved a total of 37 people comprising 20 male adults,15 female adults, and 2 children (girls).

Of the 13 killed, there were 4 male adults, 7 female adults, and 2 children.

One of the vehicles hit by the diesel truck is a yellow coloured Mazda bus with registration number KTU93XW. The second vehicle is a white Toyota bus with registration number KEY847XA.

“The unfortunate incident involved three vehicles comprising a speeding truck heading towards the Lagos axis of the expressway. It suddenly suffered a burst tyre and in the process collided head on with two other speeding commuter buses heading towards the Ibadan axis, with one of them in the process attempting to wrongfully overtake within the diversion area,” Mr Oladele said.

Mr Oladele requested relations of the injured to contact the FRSC Command in Ogere Ogun State or the Victory Hospital, Ogere.

He said the bodies have been deposited at the Ipara Mortuary.
