Mr Moshood Aliyu, an Ilorin-based legal practitioner, advised youths on Saturday to build their careers and avoid the desperation of seeking greener pastures abroad.
Aliyu observed that Nigerian youths were becoming so desperate to leave the country that they gave up their jobs.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that many young people were losing sight of the importance of adding value to their lives.
He observed that they would rather spend large sums of money obtaining visas that lead nowhere and end up accomplishing nothing even after traveling abroad.
“Youths require more orientation.” As many Nigerian youth believe, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the world. You can plan your own success in Nigeria.
“Some prefer to work in hard or menial jobs abroad rather than the more convenient and lucrative job opportunities in Nigeria.”
“Some people will travel to other countries without a recognized certificate.” They consider European countries to be a paradise where everything is simple.
“Contrary to popular belief, it is not as easy out there.”
“Stop feeling compelled to travel abroad. “You can make it in Nigeria, too,” he cautioned.
He also advised young people to avoid being duped by bogus travel agents who took their money while promising to get them visas to travel abroad.
He urged Nigerian youths to believe in their country and to stop viewing foreign countries as their paradise.
Aliyu urged journalists and non-governmental organizations to embark on youth re-orientation campaigns to discourage unnecessary emigration.
