The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger chapter has condemned the recent land dispute attack on the Bishop of Bida Diocese, Anglican Communion, the Rt. Rev. Jonah Kolo.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Minna by Dr Mathias Echioda, the state Chairman of the CAN, and made available to journalists.
“CAN condemns the attack on Kolo who was in his farm on Tuesday (December 7, 2021) by suspected aggrieved persons,” he said.
Echioda urged everyone involved to embrace peace and allow the appropriate law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties.
The CAN Chairman also advised Church members to avoid any form of retaliation attacks or being used by those who do not want peace and love to prevail.
Kolo, in response, stated that the farm land in dispute belonged to his family and was never in contention.
“The farmers in the kopa community in the Lavun Local Government Area, where the farm is located, can attest that the land belonged to my family and that we have been cultivating the farm land for years without any challenge from any group or person.”
“My concern is how a farm that has been cultivated and is ready for harvest can now become the property of the attack syndicate,” he wondered.
