The Federal Government, on Wednesday, reiterated its commitment to ensuring effective implementation of Ogoni land clean-up through strong collaboration with UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
Minister of State for Environment, Chief Sharon Ikeazor, stated this in a statement issued by Press Director in the ministry, Mr Saghir el-Mohammed in Abuja.
According to Ikeazor, the federal government would deliver its mandate effectively, added that the project would recover all the lost time in Ogoni land.
She said that the ministry, in collaboration with UNEP, would organise a retreat with critical stakeholders, comprising of members of the Board of Trustees (BoT).
“The retreat will also involve the Governing Council (GC), Central Representatives Advisory Committee (CRAC) of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), UNEP, representatives of Joint Venture Partners as well as the management staffers of HYPREP,” the minister said.
The retreat, according to her, will hold in Abuja from March 17 and March 19, adding that it will provide opportunity for UNEP to present the recommendations that was presented to the federal government in 2011.
Ikeazor said that UNEP would also present the federal government gazette on the establishment of HYPREP.
She added that the retreat was expected to reposition HYPREP and make it more effective to deliver to the Ogoni people the benefits of the project.
