Foundation opens charity shop to support children with cancer

A Non-Government Organisation (NGO), Okapi Children Cancer Foundation, says it has opened a charity shop to raise
money for children with cancer.

The Project Director, Dr Ozy Okonokhua, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

Okonokhua stated that the foundation had been supporting children and families fighting cancer to cushion the effect of the disease on their financial, physical, social and psychological status.

According to him, items such as inscribed T-shirts, mugs, diary, pen, free eye checkup and other medical care are available for the public in exchange for  donation for children’s cancer treatment

He said that “as a foundation, we have been supporting children with cancer and their families solely with proceeds raised at our fundraising events.

“While we wait for government’s intervention, we call on benevolent Nigerians to support our efforts in providing succour to children battling cancer.

“A charity shop has been opened and all proceeds from the sale of items will go to supporting children fighting the disease.’’

He also called on government at all levels and other stakeholders to make childhood cancer a national priority to reduce the physical, mental and economic effect of the disease on families.

He announced that the foundation would hold its annual six kilometer walk with the theme “Walk of Hope’’ on Sept. 24 to raise awareness on childhood cancer and urged the public to support it.
