Outrage trails video of Oba Ghandi Olaoye of Ogbomoso kneeling before Pastor Adeboye at recent event

Pastors are often regarded as earthly representatives of the divine, and it's customary for people to kneel before them as a sign of spiritual reverence to God. However, the video depicting Oba Ghandi Olaoye, a former RCCG Pastor, kneeling before Pastor Adeboye, has rubbed some Nigerians the wrong way. They find it puzzling why a king would kneel before a fellow human, especially considering that such an act goes against the grain of Yoruba tradition.

Nigerians stumbled upon a video capturing Pastor Adeboye anointing the new Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, and his wife.
The sight of the royal couple kneeling before the RCCG Pastor sparked discontent, leaving many bewildered.
In Yoruba tradition, where kings bowing to anyone is a cultural no-no, folks couldn’t wrap their heads around why a revered monarch would bend the knee to Pastor Adeboye at a recent event.

The viral video depicting the newly enthroned Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, kneeling before Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has triggered a wave of disapproval from the public.

In the footage, the clergyman was observed anointing and offering prayers for the new Soun at Beulah Baptist Conference in Ogbomoso, where the interdenominational thanksgiving service for the monarch took place.

The sizzling video of Oba Ghandi bending the knee before Pastor Adeboye has ignited a social media storm. Many are airing their concerns about why a King would bow to a man, throwing shade on the mash-up of our traditional groove and religious razzmatazz.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde approved the selection of Olaoye as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland, on September 2, 2023, from Olaoye Ruling House after duly selected by the kingmakers in the ancient town.

The stool became vacant after the transition into the great beyond of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III.

On September 8, the kingmakers in Ogbomosoland, led by Areago of Ogbomoso, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin, installed Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso at Abata.

Adeboye maintained that his former pastor, Olaoye’s kingship was predestined, and he wanted God to communicate this to Olaoye directly.

The leadership of the RCCG Jesus House, Washington D.C., USA, has announced a replacement for Oba Olaoye.

Pastor Ayo Olulana was named by the RCCG to replace the new Soun of Ogbomoso on Monday, September 18.
