Ololade Ayelabola, a student from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest catwalk by a model.
Ayelabola walked an impressive 130.62 km, surpassing her initial target of 120 km, in an event that began on October 1 at UNILAG’s indoor sports center.
The student completed 2,058 laps in the venue, pushing beyond the 120 km mark to achieve an extra 10 km.
Her remarkable feat is now under review for official confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR).
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Ayelabola revealed her motivation behind the record attempt.
She expressed her desire to highlight the talent and innovation in Nigeria’s fashion industry on an international platform.
“I’m not walking for myself alone. I am walking for many models who have been limited by stereotypes and standards set by rigid systems. I am also walking to showcase the creativity of the Nigerian fashion industry,” she wrote.
Ayelabola’s accomplishment has surpassed the previous record held by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114.4 km in Dublin, Ireland, on September 21, 1983.
