Nigerian activist and internet sensation, VeryDarkMan, has waded into the trending controversy surrounding Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo’s bold threat to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
In a newly released video, VeryDarkMan offered a scathing assessment of the situation, described the Governor’s statement as not only unconstitutional but also part of a broader political scheme ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Okpebholo had stirred massive outrage after a viral video surfaced in which he categorically warned Peter Obi not to set foot in Edo State without his permission.
The threat, which many see as undemocratic and inflammatory, has sparked nationwide backlash, especially among opposition supporters and celebrities like Destiny Etiko, Tunde Ednut, and Israel DMW.
VeryDarkMan, known for his sharp commentary on Nigerian socio-political issues, claimed that Governor Okpebholo’s statement was not a mere emotional outburst but a calculated political move.
According to him, the APC-led federal government is allegedly using Governors of states where Obi had strong electoral support in 2023 to undermine his potential presidential ambition in 2027.
He pointed out a pattern: “Look closely,” he said, “Benue and now Edo – two states where Obi won convincingly in 2023 – are now suddenly hostile towards him”
VDM criticized the growing trend of state executives allegedly weaponizing their offices to suppress political rivals, stressed that no Nigerian citizen has the legal or constitutional right to ban another from traveling or campaigning in any part of the country. He labeled such actions as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and fundamental freedom of movement.
The outspoken influencer didn’t stop there. He blasted President Tinubu’s administration, described it as riddled with failures and deception.
He also accused APC governors of prioritizing partisan loyalty over the wellbeing and democratic rights of their citizens.
