The Nigeria Police Force has launched an urgent investigation following the circulation of a shocking viral video showing a woman feeding a baby a sachet of Action Bitters, a strong alcoholic herbal drink.
The video, first shared on X (formerly Twitter) by influencer Chuks Eric (@ChuksEricE), shows an unidentified woman tearing open the sachet with her teeth, taking a sip herself, then tipping its contents into the mouth of a young infant girl.
The caption on the clip reads “Every night just for her to sleep,” suggesting a disturbing routine .
In a statement issued on Monday via the police’s official X account, the Nigeria Police Force described the act as “distressing,” “illegal and dangerous,” and confirmed that it has opened a formal probe into the matter.
Authorities emphasized that exposing a child to alcohol not only violates Nigerian child welfare laws but also endangers the physical and neurological development of the infant .
The police appealed to the public for assistance in identifying and apprehending the woman. A tip line—09169967000—has been set up for anyone with lead information.
“We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this ‘mother’ to not hesitate to provide same,” the force stated, underscoring that “the child’s safety is our priority” .
