The Executive Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello has stated that the Buhari administration is keen on youth inclusion and participation in governance.

According to the governor, President Muhammadu Buhari loves and prioritises the youths of the country.

He added that this is evident in his assent to the not-too-young to run bill.

The bill, which was signed into law in May 2018 reduced the prerequisite age for elective positions into house of assembly and house of representatives from 30 years to 25 years; senate and governorship from 35 years to 30 years, and office of the president from 40 years to 35 years.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, Bello said it is time for the youths to take charge of the country.

”We all know that Mr. President loves Nigerian youths a lot; our leaders have misled us before today. Mr. President has decided to ensure that youths come on board, and signing the not-too-young-to-run bill, and even ensuring that the younger generation are given positions of authority,” he said.

“You see the EFCC boss right now. It is time that we allow the younger generation to take charge and fix this country. If our leaders, elders and seniors failed us, we the younger generation should not fail ourselves.

“Let our attention not be diverted on issues of insecurity and some other mundane issues. We should call ourselves together as Nigerians, energetic and forcefully, let’s fix this country.

“The opportunity is presenting itself, it is just a matter of days, weeks and months away, I believe we should be able to get this country fixed.”

The governor also said the Buhari administration has recorded success in all sectors of the country.

“Daily bombings are no longer happening, if we are talking of banditry and kidnapping, this predates even the formation of the APC,” he said.

“So the APC inherited a challenge and we are doing our best to ensure the challenges are reduced to the barest minimum.

“Largely, the APC has performed beyond what the PDP has achieved in their 16 years of governance in Nigeria.

“The APC’s successes today within six years outweigh the successes of 16 years that they ruled. The statistics are there. We will remind Nigerians of where the APC inherited Nigeria and where we are today.”
