The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has stated that it has developed new technology – integrated Electronic Arrest Reporting System (I-EARS) to fight crime in the country.

This was contained in a statement released by the NSCDC spokesman, Olusola Odumosu on Wednesday.

The NSCDC commandant-general said the I-EARS will be used to a make a compilation of information on all forms of crime.

He said the new technology will be used to plan strategic action for security operations by the corps.

The commandant-general also ordered the 15 zonal commanders of NSCDC across the country to beef up security in states under their jurisdiction, and to deploy improved tactics to maintain security before, during, and after the Eid-al-Fitr celebration.

According to the NSCDC commandant-general, the directive became necessary following threats of attacks by miscreants and bandits in different parts of the country, which he said must be prevented to guarantee a hitch-free celebration.

“There is a need to deploy different scientific approaches to combat insecurity at this time, hence the resolve for tactical deployment of conventional and specialised personnel, with appropriate operational equipment to strategic locations,” he said.

Audi noted that the present security situation in the country is worrisome, but expressed optimism that the nation will overcome the challenges.

“The peace and stability of a country leads to its economic growth and development, therefore, it is the responsibility of every citizen to see Nigeria as a collective project that must not be allowed to fail,” he added.

He appealed to Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe, race, or colour, to use the Eid-al-Fitr period to pray for peace in the country.

Audi also reminded citizens, especially the privileged, to remember those that cannot afford to feed, just as he called for prayers for the personnel combating various security threats to the country.
