Ogun state house of assembly has passed a bill to regulate animal grazing and establishment of cattle ranches in designated areas across the state.

The lawmaker representing Ifo II, Ganiyu Oyedeji who sponsored the bill presented the report of the committee on agriculture and forestry during plenary session on Thursday.

Oyedeji moved the motion for the adoption of the report, and was supported by Sola Adams, lawmaker representing Ijebu-east.

A section of the bill prescribes a three-year jail term without an option of fine, including the forfeiture of the herds of cattle or livestock to the state government, if such animals are found to be grazing outside the permitted ranches.

Yusuf Sherif, lawmaker representing Ado Odo/Ota I, moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, and was supported by Wahab Haruna, member representing Yewa North II.

Deji Adeyemo, clerk of the house, read the bill for the third time, after which Olakunle Oluomo, speaker of the house, ordered that a clean copy of the bill be forwarded to Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, for assent.

In another development, Funmilayo Adeyemi was announced as the substantive deputy clerk of the house.

According to NAN, Adeyemi, a lawyer, was the director of legal services at the assembly, before she was appointed to her new position
