The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has disclosed that it may transmit results of the local government and council development area elections electronically.

This was disclosed by LASIEC chairperson, Ayotunde Phillips when he featured on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Friday.

According to LASIEC chairperson, the agency’s website is currently experiencing difficulties but its technicians are working to resolve the issue.

Phillips said that if the problem persists, the use of Cloud storage — a computer data storage in which digital data can be stored in logical pools — will ensure easy access of the results.

The LASIEC boss said voters in possession of the either temporary voter cards (TVCs) or permanent voters card (PVCs) are eligible to vote in Saturday’s local government election in the state.

“We are still battling the uploading aspect of our website, which is giving us problem but I’m sure with the use of the cloud that we’ve paid for because of the card readers, something will be done, and they will be able to access whatever results are able to be stored on the cloud tomorrow.

“Apart from the website, all the results will go into a cloud and we have paid we have paid for use of that cloud for one year. I’m sure we will find a way of allowing access to that information, our technicians will just have to work on it.

“We are working on it, and we are going to work on it all night, and we hope by tomorrow everything will be alright.”

She also said that the commission is not oblivious of the delicate security situation in the state, noting that the commissioner of police in the state assured that an additional 35, 000 personnel has been deployed to ensure peace is kept on election day.

“We have work hand in hand for over a month now with the security agencies, the police and the civil defense corps, who are the frontliners, the army, navy, the air force, and the neigbourhood watch and the DSS.

“We are very aware of the security situation and just this evening I was informed by the commissioner of police that he has deployed an additional 35, 000 policemen into Lagos tomorrow to help oversee the election and ensure that peace is kept.”
