No fewer than 17 Corps members deployed to Edo State for the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who showed symptoms of COVID-19 have been admitted to Stella Obasanjo Hospital on Sapele Road, Benin, Edo State for treatment.

Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Edo Government-owned hospital, confirming this during an inspection of isolation center with Governor Godwin Obaseki, said that even though the cases were unvaccinated, they were analyzing to find out if there was Delta variant in the state.

Also the Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Personal Assistant, Mr. Ozeto Waheed, in the State, said the 17 Corps members mobilised to serve in the state have not been confirmed to be carrying COVID-19 Delta variant.

Waheed stated that the deployed corps members took COVID-19 test at the entrance gate of the orientation camp.

He added that those who tested positive for the virus were usually transferred to the isolation centre.

Obaseki confirmed the readiness of his administration to effectively deal with the Delta variant of COVID-19, while insisting that no case of the variant has been confirmed in the State.

The Governor also assured that arrangements were being made to vaccinate more Edo residents as part of efforts to protect them from the COVID-19.
