Buhari budgets N3.7bn for Armed forces’ DICON

Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria will get a total of N3,702,595,963 as allocation in the 2022 Appropriation Bill.

The DICON is an organisation operated by the Nigerian Armed Forces responsible for the production of defence equipment and civilian products.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday at the opening of a two-day Mid-Term Ministerial Performance Review Retreat said Nigeria would soon begin the production of weapons locally through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.

However, of the total allocation to DICON, N526,449,599, was allocated for the rehabilitation /repairs of defence equipment; N100,000,000 for the construction /provision of infrastructure, while research and development got 100,000,000.

Others are installation and support for production equipment and machines at ordinance factory and other factories for N162,059,500; establishment of independent power facilities at DICON ordinance factories for N300,000,000; upgrading of existing weapons production lines for N276,449,599; procurement of machines to replace obsolete production lines at the ordnance factories to cost 150,000,000.

The budget breakdown also showed that N1,417,142,510 is for personnel cost, overhead N161,972,939 and capital expenditure will gulp N2,123,480,514.
