Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the reversed retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years and length of service from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes earlier.

Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Information officer, Office of the Yobe State, Head of Civil Service in a statement on Tuesday indicated that the reversed retirement age or years of service is not automatic as officers will be required to demonstrate fitness after medical examination and those found to be unfit will be advised to retire accordingly.

“This gesture is limited to Education Officers/Teaching Staff only, and it is with immediate effect, as contained in a letter signed by the Head of Service, Muhammad B. Nura”, the statement added.

It was gathered that Yobe State is among states in the federation where the reversed retirement age is being implemented.
