Manchester United interim coach, Ralf Rangnick has revealed what he did to prepare his players for games while the club’s training ground was closed amid the COVID-19 Omicron outbreak.
Rangnick said he used Manchester United’s training ground closure to prepare video footage for the players ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Monday night.
Recall that Man United’s training ground at Carrington was closed for five days due to the coronavirus outbreak in the first-team squad.
The Red Devils closed their Carrington training complex last Thursday for five days as majority of the players did not return until Tuesday.
Their upcoming game against Newcastle tonight will be their first match in 16 days.
“I spoke with most of the players who were either in isolation or positively tested, so I spoke with 16 or 17 players individually over the phone to hear how they’re and how they were feeling,” Rangnick said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Newcastle clash.
“But we did a lot of work in between together with my coaching staff, preparing video footage, and we’ve started to show this video footage to them from Tuesday.
“We will follow up on that [to] on Sunday because it is important that they really know what it is about, how we should play, how to find the best possible balance of playing offensively and make use of the offensive players we have, but at the same time being able to defend and make sure that we get further clean sheets in the future.
“Physically they look good, they had a very intense training session yesterday.
“It was a very intense training session, so I am not worried about the physical state the team is in, they seem to be extremely fit.”
Man United are currently in the 7th position on the Premier League table with 27 points from 16 games.
