No admission for LASUSTECH yet – VC

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday, appointed Dr. Oluremi Olaleye as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology  (LASUSTECH)  formerly known as Lagos State Polytechnic  (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu.

Dr. Olaleye was the Rector of the Polytechnic before it was changed from its former status LASPOTECH to LASUSTECH on Friday, 2nd February 2022.

Recall that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently, signed the bills for the establishment of additional two universities in the state. The institutions are Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology.

Sanwo-Olu assented to the bills transmitting Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu, Isolo, and Surulere campuses to the University of Science and Technology, as well as Adeniran Ogunsanya Colleges of Education, Ijanikin and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe to Lagos State University of Education.

In a statement signed by the LASUSTECH Director of Information and Public Relations, ‘Lanre Kuye, Dr. Olaleye while addressing members of staff at a town hall meeting held on Friday,  expressed his gratitude to the Governor and charged members of staff to be efficient in their duties

The statement reads: “ Dr. Olaleye while addressing members of staff at a town hall meeting held earlier today, at the School of Agriculture Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor for his large heart for the consideration of his appointment as the Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology.”

“ He also expressed gratitude to the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Tokunbo Philip Wahab, and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa for their  efforts geared towards the successful transmutation of the citadel of learning.”

“ While conveying the message of Mr. Governor to the members of staff, he noted that the Governor emphatically stated that no staff will lose his or her job due to the transmutation. He encouraged all staff that the transmutation poses a challenge to be more dutiful as the university status requires more efficiency and proficiency in service delivery .”

Dr. Olaleye who spoke to this reporter however said that newly admitted students will continue with the OND/HND degree, noting that LASUSTECH is yet to roll out admission for new students.

“ The newly admitted students applied for jamb to enter Lagos state Polytechnic, it was the admission process that was prolonged that made us still be doing admission now and the admission is near completion. So they applied to study in Lagos state polytechnic and so shall that be. The Lagos State University of Science and Technology has not placed adverts for admission yet” he said
