Ghanaian professional footballer, Jordan Ayew has tested positive for coronavirus.

The sad news means that he will not join the Black Stars of Ghana national football team for the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs with Nigeria.

Ayew, a key player for Ghana and also a key player for Crystal palace, was left out of Palace‘s squad in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final game against Everton at Selhurst Park.

He was initially named in the Palace squad, but was dropped after tests confirmed he was positive.

Premier League players are expected to self isolate for 10 days but it is possible for an individual to come out of self-isolation after five days, provided they have two negative lateral flow tests, 24 hours apart.

Using that calculation, it means Ayew, 30, is likely to miss the two legged ties with the Super Eagles.

His brother Andre Ayew will also not play the game after he was ruled out due to suspension.

The winner of the two legged tie will automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
