Presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu has opposed consensus arrangement in picking the presidential candidate that will represent the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s election.

There are speculation that the ruling party may be looking at going for a consensus candidate instead of an open primary for its presidential candidate.

Reacting to the plan, Tinubu said his democratic ideals do not support such arrangement, adding that he believes in democracy taking its full course.

The former Lagos state governor made this known when he met with party delegates in Taraba on Sunday.

“I want democracy; I am voting for democracy, One man, one vote,” Tinubu said in response to questions about consensus arrangements.

The former Lagos governor said his “chances of winning the ticket are incredibly high” if a democratic process was followed due to his high political pedigree.

“I am very confident,” he stressed. “I am sure I can, and I will win it.”

Scores of top contenders including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige, Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello; Ebonyi Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State among others are in the race to win the coveted APC ticket.
