New Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has revealed why he is confident that Nigeria will win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Withinnigeria recalls that Super Eagles who won the AFCON title in 2013 in South Africa, were defeated in the qualifying rounds for the 2015 and 2019 editions but claimed the third position on their return in Egypt in 2019.

In the 2021 edition, early this year in Cameroon, the Eagles were sent back home in the Round of 16.

Peseiro who has reiterated his desire to see the Super Eagles win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has revealed why he is confident that he can help restore the team’s lost glory.

“I came here for one goal; I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians. I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players. I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again,” Peseiro said during his visit to Nigeria’s sports minister, Sunday Dare on Wednesday.

“Nigeria is top 5 when it comes to football in Africa. I want to say appreciate the minister and the Football Federation for this opportunity to lead the national team. I will work round the clock to ensure we achieve as much success as possible and the journey starts now”.

The Super Eagles will begin their quest for a place in Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with a home game against Sierra Leone on Thursday
