The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba has directed the reorganization of security management in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a statement issued on Monday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force public relations officer, the directive followed the security advisory issued by the US embassy on Sunday.

In separate advisories over the weekend, the US, UK, and Canada had alerted its citizens resident in Nigeria over the likelihood of attacks in the FCT.

Reacting to the development earlier on Monday, Peter Afunanya, spokesman of the Department of State Services (DSS), called for calm.

Speaking further on the development, Adejobi said the IGP had directed the commissioner of police (CP) in charge of the FCT and other heads of tactical squads to restrategise security management in the FCT.

Baba also said the force headquarters would provide the required support, logistics, and deployments necessary for ensuring safety nationwide.

He also pledged the commitment of the police to continue working with other security agencies to make every part of Nigeria safe.

In another development, the IGP announced the immediate commencement of a counter terrorism incident simulation exercise codenamed “Operation Dirkin Gaggawa”.

He said the operation would hold within the force headquarters and the the police officers wives association school in Abuja on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The IGP added that the operation is part of strategies to “decimate” activities of non-state actors and other criminal elements in the FCT and other parts of the country.
