U-17 WWC: Ajakaye scoops POTM for third time after Flamingos’ win against Germany

Opeyemi Ajakaye of the Flamingos was named Player of the Match after Nigeria defeated Germany on Sunday.

In their third-place match at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the Flamingos gave up a three-goal advantage but won 3-2 on penalties.

Ajakaye scored her side’s opening goal of the game on 20 minutes. The 16-year-old also converted from the spot in the shootout.

It’s the third time she has won the award in the competition. She is also expected to be named in the team of the tournament.

In other news, Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher, has apportioned the blame for their 4-1 defeat to Brighton to himself and his teammate, saying they were not good enough as a group and individuals.

Brighton hammered Chelsea 4-1 on Saturday to end the Blues 9-game unbeaten run and hand Potter his first defeat since taking over at Stamford Bridge
