Karim Benzema might unexpectedly re-join the France team for the 2022 World Cup.

The 34-year-old was initially expected to miss the game due to injury.

Benzema’s thigh issue was predicted to keep him out of the competition the entire time.

France head coach, Didier Deschamps, opted not to call up a replacement and has continued with Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman and Marcus Thuram.

However, RMC Sport claims that Benzema could still return to the France setup as he returns to full training this week at Real Madrid.

Benzema could be fit enough to take part in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

FIFA rules permit players to return to their squads if they recover from injury if they had initially been named in the tournament squad before being ruled out.
