Reps committee indicts VCs of UniCal, FUTO, others over audit report

The management of some universities in Nigeria have been charged by the Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives for failing to submit audited reports.

University of Calabar, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and University of Agriculture, Makurdi are just a few of the institutions that have been charged. University of Jos, University of Ilorin, and Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Oluwole Oke, the chairman of the Committee on Public Account, stated in his report that the schools had withheld their audited accounts for many years.

For University of Calabar, the committee recommended that the former Vice Chancellor, former Bursars, present Vice Chancellor and his Bursar should be sanctioned and handed over to EFCC for non-rendition of audited accounts to the Office of the Auditor General from 2012 to 2018.

In the case of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, the committee recommended that the former Vice Chancellor, former Bursar and present Vice Chancellor should be sanctioned and handed over to EFCC for non-rendition of 2016 – 2018 audited accounts.

For the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the panel recommended that the Vice Chancellor and the Bursar should be sanctioned.

Meanwhile, 54 agencies were also recommended for sanction for shunning the invitation of the committee.

The committee asked the House to issue arrest warrants against the heads of the 54 agencies to ensure the appear before the house.

The committee listed the CBN, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Niger Delta Development Commission, and Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission as some of the prominent culprits.
