Argentina is being investigated by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) following their victory over the Netherlands on Friday.

Argentina is being investigated for some scenes during the quarter-final match, according to the football governing body.

The South Americans advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the Netherlands on penalties on Friday.

Lionel Messi, of Paris Saint-Germain, set up Nahuel Molina to open the scoring before converting from the penalty spot.

Argentina thought they had qualified, but Wout Weghorst came off the bench in the second half and scored a late double to force extra time.

The central referee, Antonio Mateu Lahoz, issued over a dozen yellow cards during the game.

After the game, Lahoz also issued a red card to Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries.

FIFA is now investigating the game’s events.

The statement released by the football governing body reads;

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) and 16 (Order and security at matches) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the Netherlands v. Argentina FIFA World Cup match that took place on 9 December.

Argentina head coach, Scaloni, on Friday was shown a yellow card along with several members of his squad.

Weghorst, meanwhile, was booked long before entering the fray after an incident on the touchline.
