On Friday, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), paid a visit to the National Secretariat of the Pan Igbo socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide in Enugu.

The former Anambra State Governor, who arrived at the Ohaneze National Secretariat with some of his aides, signed the condolence register opened for the organization’s late President-General, Prof. George Obiozor.

After signing the register of condolences, Obi stated that he had to travel down to Enugu and ensure that he was the first to sign the register of condolences due to his deep respect for Obiozor and other Igbo leaders.

Obiozor, he said, was a rare great and respected leader who had served humanity and the country in various capacities.

According to the LP flagbearer, Nigeria, the Igbo people, and humanity have lost a rare gem and personality, and the former Ambassador will be greatly missed.

Obi said:

Due to the importance, value and respect I have for our leaders, especially our eminent leader and academic luminary, Prof. George Obiozor, I have to leave my home in Lagos to be here this morning.

No Nigerian is against my candidacy but what we have is different opinions, which is highly allowed in a democratic dispensation.

I am very sad that we lost Obiozor. Our country, Nigeria; the Igbo people and humanity have lost a rare gem and personality.

However, we cannot question God for His decision. I pray that God Almighty that called him home, will grant him eternal rest.

I pray that God Almighty will grant all of us the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Obi also urged Nigerians to put their faith in God and work hard, praying that God should continue to bless the country.
