The Ekiti State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, CC John Olatunde, stated that the introduction of cutting-edge technology will aid in the fight against crime in the state.

According to DSC Afolabi Tolulope, CDPRO, the State Commandant delivered his address on the theme “The Role of Information Technology in Risk Assessment.”

According to the Commandant, “technological advancement in information technology helps to prepare necessary backups in case of natural and man-made disasters anytime they surface. With the development in technical know-how, total reliance on artificial intelligence can fail because they are put in place by human beings who are better reasoning than the computer.”

The Commandant praised the introduction of Technology in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections which helped to minimize vote buying and other electoral offences with a clear warning that over-reliance on technology may bring confusion and people should know how to reconcile differences arising from failure of technology.

He alluded further on the commitment of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR to digitalize the administration and operations of the Corps for seamless intra and inter Agency collaborations and synergies.

He highlighted the use of Information Technology Apps such as I – EARS ( Integrated Electronic Arrest Reporting System) and PCASM (Public Crime Alert System Monitoring) in the operations of the Corps to drive the Safe School Initiative; as well as gathering Intelligence for national security.
