The family of the late media tycoon Raymond Dokpesi has announced that he will be buried on June 22 at his home in Edo State.

The funeral would begin with a “day of tributes” on June 19 at The Ballroom International Conference Centre in Abuja, according to plans made public on Wednesday.

On June 20, there will be a memorial service at The Church of the Assumption in Asokoro, Abuja.

The deceased’s residence in Edo State will host a service of songs on June 21.

On June 22, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Agenebode, Edo State, will host a second funeral mass.

On June 22, a reception will be held for visitors at the grounds of St. Peter’s Grammar School in Agenebode, Edo State.

Dokpesi, chairman of DAAR Communications which owns Africa Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM, died on May 29 at the age of 71, weeks after reportedly suffering a stroke.

A statement by DAAR’s group managing director Tony Akiotu hours after the death stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain fell while on his treadmill.

“He had been ill in the last few weeks but was well on his way to recovery. He had a fall earlier today, while on the treadmill during a routine gym exercise,” the statement said.

Dokpesi’s son Raymond Dokpesi Jnr had earlier described the deceased as “a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend” who “will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”
