The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted licence to Amadeus University, Amizi, Abia State to operate as a private university.

The ceremony, which took place in Abuja, also attracted key stakeholders.

The higher institution is set to embark on its mission to deliver quality education, with focus on entrepreneurship, research, innovation and social impact.

The university’s establishment is a response to the growing need for expanded access to higher education in the country. Driven by a vision to empower youths, Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, a development economist and Chairman of Board of Trustees of Grooming Centre, founded the institution.

Speaking after the event, Nwabunka noted that the initiative is a testament to his resolve to building capacity, providing opportunities and promoting entrepreneurship.

He added that the school would provide a distinct educational experience, while fostering innovation, research and sustainable outcomes.

The founder said the institution would promote academic, sporting and social linkages with other universities across the globe, to further enrich learning experience.

Chairman of the Planning and Implementation Committee, Prof. Akaneren Essien, said through the institution, they hope to produce globally competitive graduates, who would drive socio-economic development with meaningful results.

Essien added that the ivory tower looks forward to welcoming its first set of students and making a lasting impact in the tertiary education sub-sector.
