The Salka Elites Forum of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, has petitioned Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to summon the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora to order, following perceived controversial appointments that resulted in the setting ablaze of residential buildings and business premises, with several people suffering varying degrees of injuries, including a police officer in the area.

The forum also urged the State Governor to cancel the ostensibly unilateral creation of a new District and the contentious appointment of a settler as the Village Head of Tungan Kade- Majinga, a Kambari Community in the State’s Magama Local Government Area, in order to preserve Kambari tradition, norms, and values.

In a press statement issued by the Forum’s leader, Bala Salka, and made available to newsmen at the end of a one-day retreat held in Minna, the group claimed that the act of the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, who was supposed to be the custodian of the people’s peace and cultural heritage, had led to the breakdown of law and order in the area.

The forum also stated that the Monarch should respect the traditions of the various tribal groups within his domain and consult with them before making any decisions that affect them.

The turbaning of Hausa Fulani as village Head of Tungan Kade by the Emir has resulted in burning of residential buildings, business premises and many people sustained varying degrees of injuries, including a Policeman in the area.

This singular act by the Emir negates the relevant laws governing traditional institutions in the state, and the Emir should be held responsible for the unfortunate incident as well as the breakdown of law and order.

Similarly, the group has kicked against the unilateral creation of a new District and appointment of the District Head.

The new District consists of about eight(8) kambari communities where he made a Fulani man as District Head and the community where the man came from as headquarters even when there are towns that are historically older than her in the new District.

The act by the Emir of Kontagora is unacceptable, very disrespectful to the kambari people, unlike his predecessors who recognised their tradition, the forum maintained.
