  • State government official says Akeredolu will return to his duty soon

Ondo State Government has said claims making the round that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s health status is critical are untrue.

The state government was reacting to media reports claiming that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu, said that the governor was incapacitated.

During a meeting with state chairmen of the party in Abuja on Tuesday, Adamu was reported to have described Akeredolu, who is currently on medical leave, as being in an “extreme incapacity.”

In a swift response, the state government refuted the reports, describing them as the work of desperate politicians.

In a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the government, while calling for prayers for Akeredolu, said the governor would be back to perform his responsibilities soon.

The statement attributed the false claims to desperate politicians seeking to create division and spread mischievous information about the governor and the state.

Ademola-Olateju emphasised that the state party chairman, Ade Adetimehin, who was present at the meeting, had confirmed that the national chairman merely called for prayers for the swift recovery of the ailing governor.

“The Chairman of the APC in Ondo State, Engineer Ade Adetimehin, who attended the meeting, has debunked the report as untrue and totally disconnected from the statement of the Chairman at the event.

“The National Chairman was indeed excited at the reports on the rate of recovery of the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, and urged all those present at the meeting to pray for his quick return.

“Mr. Governor is not incapacitated. He will return to his duty as soon as the doctors certify him fully fit to do so.”
