  • Former AIG Charles Ugomuo has called for increased efforts to combat corruption, especially in the political and judiciary sectors.
  • The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has said that involving schoolchildren in the fight against corruption is a key strategy for a better future.

Former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Charles Ugomuo has stated that efforts to combat corruption must be stepped up, lamenting that political and judiciary corruption has reached a point where something must be done quickly to save the country.

Ugomuo spoke with journalists yesterday, shortly after the premiere of ‘Corruption Tori Season 4’ at Government Junior Secondary School, Mpape in Abuja, which was organized by Signsture Communications Limited.

He said;

The politicians rig elections, and the worst is now the judiciary. Let there be a change and let Nigeria move forward. You can’t be rigged out and you go to the judiciary and get a good ruling; it is cash and carry.

Our politicians loot and carry the money outside the country and the money is no longer useful to this country and survivability is now very difficult, he said.

Dennis Agbo, a member of the House of Representatives from Enugu State’s Igbo-Eze North/Udenu federal constituency, said it was too early to rate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on its anti-corruption efforts.

Prof Bolaji Olufunmileyi Owasanoye, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who was present at the event, stated that involving schoolchildren in the fight against corruption is a strategy that must be implemented for a better future.

The ICPC boss advised that all hands must be on deck to win the war.

Hassan Salifu, a commissioner on the commission, represented Olufunmileyi, saying, “The recruitment of these children in the fight against corruption will present a better future for Nigeria.” We’ve been working hard, and combining education and character is the most effective way to root out corruption.”
