  • The Nigerian Army, NSCDC, and a private security firm have worked together to uncover a major illegal refining site in Delta

The Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and a private security firm have all worked together to uncover a major illegal refining site in Delta.

Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated on Sunday in Abuja that troops operated from the 181 Amphibious Battalion.

The battalion is based in Delta’s 6 Division Area of Responsibility at Owahwa in the Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Nwachukwu stated that the operation was part of a long-term effort to deny oil thieves freedom of action and to protect the oil industry from economic saboteurs.

He explained that the sting operation on Saturday was in response to a surveillance report on illegal oil refiners in the area.

He explained that when the troops arrived, they discovered 35 modular ovens used for illegal oil refining, three fabricated reservoirs, 30 dugout reservoirs, and 75 galvanised pipes.

The operatives have since clamped down on the illegal refining site.

The Nigerian Army enjoins all law-abiding citizens to continue to support ongoing anti-oil theft operations by reporting suspected illicit refining and illegal bunkering in their areas to security agencies, Nwachukwu stated.

Petrol Subsidy Removal Already Yielding Positive Results, Says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigerians are beginning to reap the benefits of removing petrol subsidies, urging them to be patient and supportive because a bright future awaits them despite their current hardships.

President Tinubu, who the Secretary represented the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, announced this at the Gala/Award Night to commemorate the 2023 Civil Service Week in Abuja.

According to the President, the first two policies he announced during his inauguration, namely the fuel subsidy elimination and the establishment of a new currency regime, were already yielding positive results, even as he promised palliatives to mitigate the impact of the associated sufferings.
