Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, has warned Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) personnel to take their jobs seriously or face dismissal.

On Wednesday, he warned that sabotage by personnel would not be tolerated at the NCoS national headquarters in Abuja.

In recent years, there have been several jailbreaks in custodial facilities across the country, while the issue of jail congestion remains unresolved.

We are ready to show the door to whoever wants to sabotage us, he said.

The Minister stated that he was at the Ministry to carry out President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and would not allow anyone to sabotage his efforts.

He promised to transform the Service into “a correctional institution rather than a condemnation service.”

He also promised a slew of changes to the Service and enlisted the help of employees to see them through.

Earlier, the minister expressed concern at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) about the lack of accurate data on expatriates.

He also promised to investigate several agreements the NIS had with service providers, claiming that those agreements prevented the Service from carrying out its mandates.

Any agreements (entered into by NIS) holding us back as a nation must go, said the minister.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of reducing the time it takes to obtain an international passport, lamenting that Nigerians must wait months for the document.

My daughter waited for six months to get her passport booklet. I was a House committee on NDDC chairman, I faced this, tell me what an average Nigerian will face. It’s like we are waiting for a passport to heaven, he said.
