In a remarkable display of bravery and commitment to national security, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) proudly announces a highly successful week-long operation across North-East, North-Central, and North-West Nigeria. Major-General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the exceptional achievements during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

DHQ’s recent operations have seen the elimination of 50 terrorists and the capture of 114 more in a week. These efforts have spread across various regions, targeting the most notorious terror groups plaguing the nation.

Rescue Operations Yield Success

Notably, 49 hostages kidnapped by terrorists were safely rescued by our troops. This marks a significant stride in the commitment to safeguarding innocent lives.

Operation Hadin Kai Triumphs in the North East

Operation Hadin Kai’s relentless efforts in the North East have considerably weakened Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. As a result, some of their fighters surrendered in the Borno and Yobe regions. The troops also recovered an arsenal of weapons, including 17 AK47 rifles, one AK47 loaded with 21 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one hand grenade, 137 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and four mobile phones.

The troops bravely neutralized 12 terrorists, arrested 26, and rescued six kidnapped hostages in the region. Moreover, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted successful air interdiction missions in the Damboa-Maiduguri and Gwoza-Madagali areas, eliminating several terrorists with rockets.

Operations Safe Haven Strikes in the North Central

In North Central, troops of Operation Safe Haven arrested suspected kidnappers in Kanam and Sanga Local Government Areas of Plateau and Kaduna states. They seized one AK47 rifle, four pistols, a Dane gun, 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and two mobile phones. Two terrorists were eliminated, 12 apprehended, and three kidnapped hostages rescued.

Operation Whirl Stroke’s Vigilance

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke conducted raids and arrested suspected terrorists in the Takum Local Government Area of Benue and the Federal Capital Territory. This resulted in the capture of 26 suspected criminals and illegal oil bunkers in Gwagwalada and Abuja Municipal Councils of the FCT, culminating in the neutralization of four terrorists, the arrest of 28 terrorists, and the rescue of one kidnapped hostage.

North West Operations

Operation Hadarin Daji in the North West conducted successful fighting patrols in Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara, eliminating nine terrorists, arresting 12, and rescuing 25 kidnapped victims. A significant cache of weapons was also recovered, including 10 AK47 rifles, one locally fabricated gun, 155 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one magazine, and one vehicle.

An air interdiction mission by the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji targeted the terrorist enclave of Kamilu Buzaru in Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State. This mission successfully neutralized several terrorists and destroyed their logistics.
