  • The training aims to raise awareness and provide guidance for optimizing revenue generation while addressing associated challenges

The Federal Ministry of Health recently conducted a five-day workshop to enhance its staff’s knowledge and skills regarding internally generated revenue (IGR) within the healthcare sector.

Zakari Mohammed Bomoi, the Deputy Director of Finance and Accounting at the ministry, emphasized the importance of understanding the role of internally generated revenue in financing various expenditures within government ministries, departments, and agencies.

He further explained that the training program focused on improving IGR sources in the public sector, particularly within the health sector. Some of the key revenue sources discussed during the training included PAYE, stamp duty, VAT, withholding tax, bidding documents, and direct assessment.

The primary objectives of the training were to create awareness and provide guidance to staff members regarding their responsibilities in optimizing revenue generation. Abdullahi Busari, an expert in public finance management, led the training as the primary facilitator.

He highlighted strategies to address revenue generation challenges, such as leveraging information and communication technology for enhanced monitoring, implementing regular verification and reconciliation processes for revenue collection and remittance, and strengthening overall revenue accounting practices.

Suspected hoodlums kill 58-year-old woman in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the reported murder of a 58-year-old woman, Mrs. Aishatu Abdulhahi.

According to the police, unidentified assailants brutally killed the victim on Friday in Gombe. This information was conveyed in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mahid Mu’azu, on Saturday in Gombe.

He said the assailants stormed the deceased’s residence at Jekadafari area of Gombe metropolis at about 21:45hrs before fleeing with her cellphone.

“When we received the information, our men moved to the scene where Mrs Abdullahi was found in a pool of blood, and was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where she was confirmed dead.
