The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, visited the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. During his visit, Montgomery congratulated Ganduje on his new role as the leader of the APC.

Montgomery also expressed keen interest in the governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states. He mentioned that his country is closely monitoring the electoral process in these states.

Furthermore, Montgomery commended the APC as a national party that plays a significant role in shaping Nigerian politics. He acknowledged the importance of legal processes in addressing electoral issues, including resolving disputes through the courts, as part of the democratic process.

In response, Ganduje emphasized the significance of a well-structured political party in upholding democracy. He expressed optimism about strengthening ties between the APC and its partners.

Ganduje reiterated that democracy is fundamentally about good governance and affirmed that the APC is a robust democratic institution that offers hope for all Nigerians.

Nigerian Military Fully Prepared for Upcoming Elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa, Says Defence Chief

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has declared the readiness of the Nigerian military to ensure the peaceful and democratic conduct of the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States. He made this commitment during a visit to the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, by the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru.

Gen. Musa emphasized that the military would not tolerate intimidation or violence during the elections in the three states and affirmed that efforts had been put in place to maintain peace and security before, during, and after the electoral exercise. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled the gubernatorial elections in these states for Saturday, November 11, 2023.
