NNPC Facilitates Resolution, Restores 275,000 Bopd Production

Following negotiations led by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), a peace deal has been reached between the management of TotalEnergies, operator of the NNPC/TotalEnergies Joint Venture (JV), and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). The unions have agreed to suspend the ongoing industrial action, leading to the immediate restoration of 275,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) production.

The negotiation session, chaired by NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, resulted in a communiqué signed by TotalEnergies MD/CEO, Matthieu Bouyer, PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, and NUPENG President, Comrade Williams Akporegha. The parties committed to resolving all issues within an agreed framework.

The communiqué emphasized the commitment of all parties to the resolution and was witnessed by NNPC Ltd.’s EVP Upstream Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Upstream Investment Officer at NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, Bala Wunti, and Deputy Managing Director at TotalEnergies, Victor Bandele.

Flight operations suspended at Abuja airport as aircraft overshoots runway

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been temporarily shut following a runway incursion involving an Aerocontractors aircraft.

The Lagos-Abuja flight operated by Aerocontractors landed at the Airport and it was taxiing on Runway A4 when its nose wheel got stuck to the ground.

However, there was no fatality or injury as passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft while efforts are currently being made to remove the aircraft from the runway.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation into the serious incident after it was notified.

The aircraft involved in the serious incident was a Boeing 733 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ which occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023.

NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. James Odaudu, who confirmed the incident.

According to him said “The aircraft upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.
