  • Folajimi Mohammed clarifies that the cost of converting vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) depends on the engine’s capacity
  • Mohammed emphasizes the affordability and environmental benefits of CNG, highlighting its cost-effectiveness and reduced emissions compared to traditional fuels

Folajimi Mohammed, the founder of Portland Gas Ltd., has clarified that the cost of converting vehicles from petrol or diesel to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) hinges on the engine’s capacity. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Portland Gas Green Park in Lagos, Mohammed informed reporters that the conversion price varies based on the size of the engine, making it challenging to provide an exact figure at present.

Mohammed highlighted that each conversion center could handle around 25 vehicles daily, contingent on technician availability. He suggested that establishing a framework for specific car models could expedite the conversion process.

With the removal of fuel subsidies, Mohammed asserted that CNG remains affordable, falling in the price range of N270 to N300 per kilogram. He emphasized the cost-effectiveness compared to traditional petrol and diesel.

In addition to economic advantages, Mohammed underscored the environmental benefits of CNG, citing reduced greenhouse emissions, lower pollution, and enhanced safety during collisions.
