In a resolute move to elevate the quality of life for all Nigerians, Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, underscores the federal government’s commitment to prioritizing food security and sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology (NiCFoST) Data Base Management Centre in Abuja, Minister Nnaji emphasized the necessity of technological interventions. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts spanning agriculture, food science and technology, as well as nutrition and health programs to mitigate the risk of food insecurity in the country.

Highlighting the crucial role of NiCFoST’s regulatory framework, Nnaji emphasized its potential to curtail unprofessional practices and streamline management across the entire food value chain. This, he believes, will not only secure economic benefits but also contribute significantly to the nation’s sustainable food security.

During the commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Veronica Nkechi Eze, the Registrar of NiCFoST, shed light on the council’s relatively recent establishment. Formed just three years ago, NiCFoST’s primary mission is to regulate and oversee the practice and profession of food science and technology in Nigeria.
