The Federal Government, represented by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has pledged its commitment to enhance the privacy and security of Nigerians’ data.

Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, emphasized this assurance during the launch of the Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan on Data Privacy and Protection in Abuja on Tuesday.

He highlighted NDPC’s efforts to safeguard Nigerians from identity misuse and unauthorized access to their data.

He said: “In the area of security, this is one area we’re also looking at in terms of data privacy, the malicious use of identity and unauthorised access to people’s data are being used for various purposes.

“In terms of jobs creation, generation of data, confidence in our businesses, the way people perceive us within and outside the country – these are the things we’re working on. The generation of 500, 000 jobs and the development of human capital are things that would be there for everybody to participate in.

“We have about 69 major initiatives and activities across the five pillars in the areas of governance, awareness and human capital development, in the area of the ecosystem and technology. We’re looking at having home-grown solutions in terms of applications that can drive a lot of things; especially, the law itself, enforcement, investigations, a lot of solutions that can come out of that. Privacy and protection should cut across all sectors.”
