Governor Umaru Bago of Niger unveiled a 2024 budget totaling N613.274 billion to the House of Assembly on Tuesday, dubbing it the “Budget of the Future.”

Breaking down the figures, he allocated 24.33% (N149.2 billion) to recurrent expenditure and 75.67% (N464.05 billion) to capital expenditure.

The financing would primarily stem from recurrent revenue of N298.052 billion, including N155.963 billion from statutory allocation. Additional sources such as Value Added Tax (N50.6 billion), Internally-Generated Revenue (N61.8 billion), excess crude oil, and other revenues (N9.5 billion) contribute to the funding.

He highlighted that infrastructure, housing, and urban renewal take the lion’s share, receiving an estimated N220.649 billion, representing 42% of the capital allocation.

He assured that the assembly would ensure speedy passage of the budget.

He appealed to ministries, departments, and agencies of government to cooperate with the assembly during the budget screening process.

Sarkin-Daji commended the state and the Federal Government for abating insecurity in the state.

He appealed to the FG to reconstruct federal roads in Niger that were in a deplorable state.
