  • The dormant Garri Processing Factory located in Alapoti Village within the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State is to be rejuvenated

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, representing the Federal Government, has announced plans to rejuvenate the dormant Garri Processing Factory located in Alapoti Village within the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

This decision stems from recognizing the agricultural potential of the community, known as the second-largest farm settlement in Ogun State and a significant contributor to the cassava value chain in South-West Nigeria.

Highlighting the importance of this intervention, the ministry emphasized the community’s capacity to become a pivotal source of cassava supply to Lagos, the broader South-West region, and various parts of Nigeria.

In gratitude, the traditional ruler, Mattew Oluwaloni, expressed thanks to the ministry, hailing the initiative as an answered prayer for the village. He shed light on the community’s struggles, particularly its reliance on manual cassava processing due to the absence of a functional mechanized garri processing facility.

Oluwaloni stressed how this limitation has impeded the community’s ability to meet the substantial demand for staple food in local markets across the area and the wider South-West region. Moreover, he highlighted the challenges posed by the deteriorating access road, hindering their access to raw materials and markets for their products.

In response, Minister Betta Edu emphasized the urgency of offering essential aid to the community by establishing a modern cassava processing plant, emphasizing that no effort should be spared in addressing these critical challenges.

She said, “We are dedicated to assisting in building a befitting cassava processing plant here in this community, including the provision of grants and support through cooperative groups, to enhance production capacity.”
