Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged Nigerians not to forget the selflessness and dedication exhibited by the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Speaking during a special Jumat Service to mark the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Governor emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by the armed forces in defending the nation’s sovereignty and unity.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun highlighted Ogun State’s tradition of supporting and honoring the Armed Forces. He acknowledged the critical role they play in maintaining societal stability, underscoring the significance of a safe and secure environment for progress and development.

Abiodun pledged continuous efforts from the government to enhance security and support the Armed Forces and other paramilitary agencies. He called for a renewed commitment to the ideals for which past heroes fought, urging citizens to ensure that the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces are not in vain.

In his sermon, Musafir of Egbaland, Sheik Taofeek Amolegbe, emphasized the great sacrifices and love for the country exhibited by those in the Nigerian Army. He noted that conflict was inevitable but stressed that the departed souls, whether from the Civil War or Second World War, died for the unity and peace of the country. The yearly remembrance, he said, is a way of honoring their legacies.
