Bride, brother-in-law, 5 bridesmaids, perish in Niger road accident

  • The Corolla was travelling from Mokwa to Bida and the bus was heading from Minna, the Niger State capital, to Ogbomosho in Oyo State when they collided

At least thirteen persons have lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Niger state.

Those killed in the tragic incident include a newlywed bride, five bridesmaids, her brother-in-law, and six others.

The mishap reportedly happened near Lukoro in Edati area of the middle belt state on Friday evening.

An ash Toyota Corolla and a commercial Nissan bus were involved in the accident which is attributed to a combination of speeding and reckless overtaking.

The Corolla was travelling from Mokwa to Bida and the bus was heading from Minna, the Niger State capital, to Ogbomosho in Oyo State when they collided.

Tsukwan Kumar, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident.

According to him, the crash claimed the lives of eight female adults, four male adults, and one male child.

Kumar further stated that four female adults, one male adult, one male child, and one female child sustained critical injuries.

He said that response teams rushed the injured victims to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Bida for immediate medical treatment, while nine bodies of the deceased were handed over to their grieving relatives at the crash scene upon identification, and the remaining four were taken to the General Hospital Kutigi mortuary.
