  • The Lekki Deep Sea Port is the only port in Nigeria with the facilities to receive such large container vessels.
  • It berthed at the Lagos Lekki Deep Sea Port, Nigeria’s most advanced and deepest seaport.

On Monday, January 29, the arrival of the CMA CGM SCANDOLA was witnessed by prominent stakeholders, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Being the first LNG-powered ship to sail to West Africa, this container ship with 14,812 TEUs is a historic achievement.

Nigeria’s most sophisticated and profound seaport, Lagos Lekki Deep Sea Port, was where it docked.

On his official X page, Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on New Media, revealed this.

His statement reads partly: “The CMA CGM SCANDOLA has an overall length (LOA) of 366 meters and a width of 51 meters and it is the first LNG-powered container vessel to sail to West Africa arriving first in Tema before coming to Lekki Port.

“The Lekki Deep Sea Port is the only port in Nigeria with the facilities to receive such large container vessels.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the management of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and CMA CGM for this major feat in the Nigerian maritime industry and other achievements since the commissioning of this port.

“Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL) is a joint venture enterprise owned by Lekki Port Investment Holdings Inc (China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and Tolaram); 75%, The Lagos State Government; 20% and the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); 5%.”
