A wave of solidarity swept through the All Progressives Congress (APC) as elders and influencers from the North Central region, spearheaded by former Senate President Ameh Ebute, converged at the party’s national headquarters on Wednesday.
Amidst a throng of supporters, they resolutely voiced their unwavering support for the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Numbering over 25, these esteemed stakeholders vehemently denounced the clamor within certain quarters of the party to retain the office of national chairman exclusively within the North Central. They cautioned that such a move would be detrimental to the APC’s fortunes, potentially leading to its downfall.
Notably, recent sightings of posters advocating for the candidacy of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, for the position of APC national chairman had stirred speculation. However, Bello promptly disassociated himself from these displays, reaffirming his allegiance elsewhere.
Addressing a gathering that included members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other high-ranking party officials, Ebute emphasized that those advocating for Ganduje’s removal lacked foresight regarding the party’s stability.
In response, Ganduje underscored the imperative for party stakeholders to collaborate closely with President Bola Tinubu in his endeavours to uphold peace and security across Nigeria. Additionally, he stressed the importance of channeling efforts towards securing victories for the APC in the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states.
