  • Senate Committee issues final notice to NUPRC CEO Komolafe, urging appearance regarding Petroleum Industry Act implementation and host communities’ grievances
  • Chairman Agadaga expresses disappointment over Komolafe’s repeated refusal to engage, emphasizes accountability and legislative oversight for national progress

The Senate Committee on Oil and Gas Host Communities has issued a final notice to Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), urging him to appear before the legislative panel.

Komolafe’s repeated failure to respond to previous invitations concerning the challenges in implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and addressing host communities’ grievances prompted this action.

Expressing disappointment, Committee Chairman Senator Benson Agadaga highlighted Komolafe’s disregard for democratic norms and public service obligations.

The Committee emphasized the importance of accountability and urged NUPRC to reconsider its position, warning that continued evasion would deepen public mistrust and hinder national progress.

The statement titled “Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission CEO Declines Senate Committee Invitation, Sparks Public Outcry” condemned Komolafe’s refusal to engage with the Senate Committee.

The Committee sought clarification on obstacles to PIA implementation and allegations of collusion between oil companies and NUPRC, concerning host communities’ petitions.

Komolafe’s refusal reflects poorly on accountability and commitment to Nigerian welfare, undermining legislative oversight and community concerns.

Senator Agadaga expressed disappointment at Komolafe’s defiance, stressing the need for accountability and robust oversight.

The Committee called on NUPRC to prioritize transparency and equity, urging Komolafe to honor the invitation to restore public trust and advance national progress.
