  • Chelsea’s resurgence under Mauricio Pochettino adds intrigue to the Carabao Cup final, with improved defense and attack strength
  • Liverpool faces adversity with injuries to key players like Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, but aims for victory nonetheless

The upcoming Carabao Cup final promises to be thrilling as Chelsea and Liverpool prepare to battle it out on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea’s recent resurgence under Mauricio Pochettino has added an extra layer of intrigue to the matchup, with the team showing significant improvement since their lacklustre performance at Anfield a few weeks ago. Raheem Sterling’s return to form, coupled with the solid defensive partnership of Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi, has bolstered Chelsea’s strength in defence and attack. Their impressive display against Manchester City, resulting in a hard-fought draw, is a testament to their newfound threat.

One player to watch out for is defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo. His commanding presence in the centre of the pitch could prove pivotal in dictating the game’s tempo, despite his hefty price tag of £115 million.

For Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp has successfully unlocked the potential of central defensive midfielder Endo, elevating his performance to new heights. Klopp and Pochettino both recognize these two players’ significance in shaping the match’s outcome, particularly in nullifying the opposition’s attacking threat.

However, injuries have plagued Liverpool, with Curtis Jones being the latest casualty and Diogo Jota sidelined after a collision with Brentford’s Christian Norgaard. Given his crucial contributions to the team’s attacking prowess this season, Jota’s absence will be keenly felt. While Darwin Nunez’s early substitution may raise concerns, Cody Gakpo’s impressive performance provides a viable alternative.

Mo Salah’s recurrence of injury is of particular concern, stemming from his time with the Egyptian national team. Despite ongoing assessments by the medical team, Salah’s availability for the final remains uncertain. Nonetheless, Liverpool’s formidable attacking lineup, with four out of the front five players reaching double figures this season, presents a formidable challenge for Chelsea.

With key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, and Szoboszlai sidelined, Liverpool faces adversity heading into the final. Nevertheless, the team’s resilience and depth will be tested to secure victory against a resurgent Chelsea side.
